Registry Office

Those who move into a house or an apartment in Germany need to register themselves at the Registry Office. According to the registration law, it has to be done within seven days upon moving into the new apartment or house. Within this deadline is the registration free of charge. In case of exceeding this deadline, it is possible that a charge for the registration would be imposed.

In Aachen it is possible to get registered at several places:

  • At the central citizens’ services office in Aachen downtown:
    • in administration building at the railway station square or
    • in administration building at Katschhof
  • In one of the six district registry offices:
    • Aachen – Brand, Paul-Küpper-Platz 1
    • Aachen – Eilendorf, Heinrich-Thomas-Platz 1
    • Aachen – Haaren, Alt-Haarener-Straße 139-141
    • Aachen – Kornelimünster/Walheim, Schulberg 20
    • Aachen – Laurensberg, Rathausstraße 12
    • Aachen – Richterich, Roermonder Straße 559

General opening hours of the district offices:

  • Monday – Friday 08:00 -12:00
  • Additionally: Wednesdays 14:00-17:30

Foreigners´ Registration Office

Foreign students need to address all issues regarding their stay in Germany at the Foreigners’ registration office.

Foreign students of RWTH/ FH Aachen, research assistants of RWTH/ FH Aachen and students of the German language courses of RWTH/ FH Aachen and their family members need to address the branch office of the Foreigners’ registration office in Super C at Templergraben 57, 52062 in Aachen.

Some issues, e.g. issuing of the electronic residence permit, can be solved only in the central office (in the administration office, Hackländerstraße, 1).

Office for promotion of vocational training

Those students who receive state support according to the Federal Education and Trainings Assistance Act or plan to receive such a support need to visit the Federal Education and Trainings Assistance department (BAföG) at Aachen student union.

Road traffic licensing department is an important public authority for all the people who want to register or deregister their cars or to address questions regarding the driving license.
